Holiday Window TreatmentsWhen decorating your home this holiday season, you should consider how you plan on decorating your beautiful window treatments. Windows afford many opportunities for artistic and elegant decorative skills in holiday decorating because they connect the inside and outside worlds and give people passing by a glimpse into your home.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on new curtains, drapes or shades to create a holiday theme for your home’s windows.  Holiday window treatments come in all shapes, sizes and textures, and most often you can incorporate your holiday theme with your current window treatment. Here are a few ways that you can spread some holiday cheer to light up your home and neighborhood.

Decorative Wreaths

People often hang Christmas Wreaths on doors, and ignore the opportunity to use them as a window decoration. Instead of limiting wreaths to only the front door, place wreaths in all of your windows to allow both your family and the outside world to enjoy wreaths’ traditional holiday charm. If you opt for this approach, remember to make sure that every wreath matches, and looks consistent and simple. If you want to add a little something extra to the wreath, visit your local craft store and decorate it with your very own holiday items like red ribbons.

Garlands and Swags

You may have never realized this, but garlands and swags look elegant and truly captivating when hung around exterior window frames; thereby making the perfect holiday window decorations.  In the same manner as wreaths, make sure that garlands and swags are on every window; this will give your decorative windows a bigger impact.

Beautiful Ornaments

There’s no reason why ornaments should only be used to decorate the Christmas trees. If you have any ornaments left over, take some of your favorites and attach them red, green or silver pieces of ribbon and hang them in the windows. Depending on the size of your window treatment, try hanging them in a series. For example, if you have spacious window, you could hang ornaments that represent Santa’s reindeer. Remember to get creative and have fun!

String Up Some Lights

Christmas lights are a staple of holiday decor and they make terrific window decorations because they brighten up the night and fill people with feelings of warmth and joy. Most people string up the lights outside for a mesmerizing display. But who says you can’t string up some lights inside? If you have any lights left over, try hanging them in your window. If you decided to use lights inside, remember to make sure they aren’t too bright that they will bother people sitting inside. More importantly, make sure that they are out of your child or pets’ reach.

Light Some Candles

Lit candles place on each windowsill can look very warm and inviting from the outside, especially during a chilly, snowy night. Just like lights, however, there are some safety concerns that you need to take into consideration. It is of the utmost importance that they are out of reach from your pets and children. More importantly, do not leave a lit candle near curtains, drapes or any other flammable window treatments. A great way to safely include candles in your decorations is to purchase battery operated flameless candles. Not only do they look great, but also people from the outside will never know the difference!

If, however, you have your heart set on using real candles, you can reduce the risk of fire by placing your candles in clear vases. As always, never leave a lit candle unattended!

Bring Some Cheer to the Holidays

Crafting perfect holiday window treatments for your home is a simple task that’s often forgotten. Whichever idea you use, make sure that it fits with your home’s holiday theme. Take a little extra time to think about how you will decorate your window this year because beautiful holiday window treatments can really make your home stand out!
